The Australian Barbershop community is vibrant collection of male singers from all over Australia, who gather together to sing tight, exciting four-part harmonies in quartets and in choruses. There are choruses and quartets in every major city and town across Australia, and our numbers are growing daily. AAMBS is the association to which these men belong.
| AAMBS organises a national convention and competition every two years to find the best choruses and quartets in the country |
If you would like to sing with us, why not visit one of our choruses? All AAMBS choruses have an open rehearsal policy - any member of the public can simply visit a rehearsal and apply to join at any time. If you would like to form a new chorus or quartet, visit our Forms page for the appropriate forms. Have a read of our membership information first.
if you don't know much about the Barbershop style, you can download and listen to this small MP3 sample. You can also visit our Barbershop page, where the style is explained (in a somewhat technical way).
AAMBS members will find much useful information on this website, including details of Upcoming Events, recent editions of our In Harmony newsletter, all convention results, all standing orders, links to many barbershop and general music websites, and contact details for every registered chorus and quartet in the country.
Contact details for each member of the AAMBS Council can be found here.

Benchmark - Grand Finalists in 2011 Australia's Got Talent
Benchmark quartet from the Queensland Gold Coast entered "Australia's Got Talent" in June 2011 "just to show the Australian people that singing a cappella music in the barbershop style is cool." Tenor Paul Roussell, lead Derek Cosburn, bass Tom Percy and baritone Ray Smyth certainly accomplished that goal by making it through to the top 10 Grand Finalists.
The judges commented "So fantastic to listen to", "You guys are amazing", "You've been the highlight of the show so far", "You're cool, hip and I'd love to be part of that group" - and the audiences and the Australian people agreed.
You can see their show stopping performances on YouTube - Benchmark, Australia's Got Talent.
